How to choose a therapist

Besides location and cost, the most important thing when choosing a counsellor (apart from making sure they are adequately qualified and registered) is to choose someone you feel ‘comfortable enough’ to begin talking with.

Someone who 'gets' you.

If you don't feel comfortable (although it can just feel pretty strange talking to anyone about yourself when you’ve never done it), then it’s unlikely that you’ll feel safe enough to talk honestly and trust them with your story. Often making the decision to seek therapy is a difficult one. Meeting new people is often an anxious process, let alone when you do so to talk about things that may be very personal to you. Things will get easier though and I will be here to make the process as comfortable as it possibly can be by taking things at the pace you wish to and arranging relaxing surroundings for us to meet in.
